Time for Claiming Benefits


The National Insurance Regulations No 22 of 2003, Section 98 stipulates the time for claiming benefits offered by the National Insurance Corporation.

 

 The table below specifies the requirement:

 

Benefit Type

Commencement date for claiming

Sickness

Within three (3) months

From the date of expiration of sick leave

Maternity

Within three (3) months

After the date of confinement

Injury

Within three (3) months

From the date of expiration of sick leave

Invalidity

Within three (3) months

From the date of entitlement

Disablement

Within three (3) months

From the date of entitlement

Retirement

Within three (3) months

From the date of entitlement

Survivors/Death

Within three (3) months

From the date of entitlement

Funeral Grant

Within three (3) months

From the date of death of the deceased

 

 

 

Employers and Employees are asked to note that failure to submit a claim within the stipulated time limit shall result in the loss of the benefit, unless it can be proven that there was a good cause for the delay in submitting the claim.

 

To avert the disqualification of claims and to facilitate the timely payment of benefits, Employers and Employees are asked to note the above.   Employers are further reminded that claims from Employees should be submitted to the NIC no later than two weeks of receipt.
