Planning for 2007-2012

This is the theme for the strategic planning exercise which is being undertaken by the St.Lucia National Insurance Corporation.

This exercise, the third since 1999 is being facilitated by a Management Consultant, Professor Harvey Millar of the St.Mary’s University in Canada who also undertook the first one.

The first part of the program started on Monday January 29th and lasted until Friday February 2nd 2007.

Though the exercise is due to last about three months, in this first part the views of the stakeholders, staff and management were presented.  The information gathered will be analyzed by the consultant and other sessions will be held before the process can be successfully completed.

 Strategic Planning is an attempt to critically assess where an organization is at a point in time, and where it would like to be in a defined period in the future.  In doing so it must determine the strategies it will employ in order to achieve its goal and objectives.

For this purpose social, technological, economic and environmental factors which can impact on the NIC were identified as well as the critical factors which will indicate whether the organization is successful as a result of the intervention.

The exercise will also entail an examination of the current mission and vision propositions and develop key performance indicators for all positions in the organization.

The session is being undertaken with the active participation of Senior Management, Supervisory and general staff of the organization.

It is hoped that at the end of the exercise the National Insurance will be in a position to withstand whatever shocks that may be caused from the environment in which it operates.
